One of Nepal's best-kept secrets, literally, trekking in Dolpo allows you to experience the magic of unspoilt beauty. The area is very remote; there are no teahouses along the way and very few standard facilities as on the more popular trails. This is the attraction though, and you will be assured of untouched wilderness. Shey - Phoksumdo is Nepal's largest national Park and offers a complete example of the trans-Himalayan ecosystem, the park shelters blue sheep, Himalayan black bear, leopards, wolves, and the illusive snow leopard.
Although very remote Lower Dolpo is not a restricted area, therefore is not subject to the expensive fees and permits that are imposed on Inner Dolpo.
Trekking in this region reveals isolated high Himalayan valleys that are an enclave of Tibetan tradition. The major highlight of this trip is the spectacular Phoksumdo Lake, known for its aquamarine colour similar to the special Tibetan Turquoise. The lake is totally free of aqua life, which explains the crystal clear waters. Surrounded by rocky crags, forest, and framed by snow- capped peaks, the area has been described as one of the world's natural hidden wonders.
Legend says demons fled here during Gum Rinpoche's conversion of Tibet's resident spirits, offering local people a gigantic turquoise to keep her passage a secret. Guru Rinpoche transformed the turquoise into a lump of dung, and the disgruntled people revealed the demons hiding place. In revenge she culled down a flood upon their village, submerging it beneath the lake. The legend is a concise mythic summary of the ancient struggle between B?npo and Buddhists.
At the lake's eastern end is the village of Ringmo, also called Tso. The town's entrance chorten has nine complex Buddhist and B?npo mandalas painted on its wooden ceiling. Lower Dolpo is one of the few unrestricted, remote trekking areas in Nepal that maintains an abundance of unspoiled beauty, tradition, and culture, we invite you to explore this secret land with us.
Please bare in mind that it is a strict Policy of this company to maintain and preserve such rare, untouched wilderness and culture.
