Equipment List
Adventure International Treks suggesting Trekking Equipment lists up to 5500m/18000ft

The following equipment list is suggested and necessary for teahouse trekking in the Himalayas. Use this list as a guideline; some of the equipment can be hired in Katmandu (X).  Also bear in mind trekking gear can be bought in the many adventure shops in Katmandu, the majority of gear is locally manufactured (hence a lot cheaper) although it is becoming more common for gear to be imported from China and therefore of better quality. 

Clothing

1 pair of good ankle supporting hiking boots – already broken in!
1 pair of sandals/thongs
1 full set of thermals/polypro
1 fleece/warm jumper
1 fleece waistcoat
1 long sleeved top
2/3 t-shirts (preferably fast drying)
1 pair of shorts
1 pair lightweight trousers
1 pair fleece trousers (optional – lovely to change into at night after a cold shower!) (X)
2 pairs thin socks
3 pairs thick hiking socks
Underwear including thermals
Swimming costume (for the hot springs!)
Cotton headscarf / bandanna

Wet Weather/Snow Gear

1 down jacket (X)
1 lightweight water/wind proof jacket (X)
1 lightweight water/wind proof trousers or gaiters (X)
1 60-90litre rucksack (X)
1 small daypack
1 warm hat
1 warm scarf
1 pair of thin thermal/polypro gloves
1 pair of waterproof gloves (X)

Sleeping Gear

1 sleeping bag (at least 3 season – minus 15 degrees Celsius) (X)
1 inner sleeping bag sheet

Toiletries

1 medium sized quick drying towel
Toothbrush/paste (preferably biodegradable)
Multipurpose soap (preferably biodegradable)
Deodorant
Nail clippers
Face and body moisturizer
Feminine hygiene products
Small mirror

Miscellaneous

Two/one and a half liter water bottles (able to hold hot water – perfect water bottle!)
Water purifier tablets with flavoring! (Sterilized water is available in lodges)
Flashlight and spare batteries
Penknife
Sunglasses (preferably wrap around)
Sunhat
Sun block (face, body and lips)
Money belt
Few plastics bags for wrapping cloths
Camera and films as per your interest
Trekking poles (optional) (X)

First Aid Kit

Bandage for sprains
Plasters/Band-aids
Iodine or water filter  
Moleskin/Second skin – for blisters
Antiseptic ointment for cuts
Anti-bacterial throat lozenges (with antiseptic)
Aspirin/paracetamol – general painkiller
Oral rehydration salts
Broad-spectrum antibiotic (norfloxacin or ciprofloxin)
Anti-diarrhea medication (antibiotic)
Diarrhea stopper (Imodium – optional)
Antibiotic for Giardia or similar microbe or bacteria
Diamox (altitude sickness – can be bought in Kathmandu)
Sterile Syringe set (anti-AIDS precaution)
